National Campaign for Learning - Learning to Learn Action Research

The Campaign for Learning is an independent charity that aims to stimulate an appetite for learning that will sustain people for life. If focuses on three main areas: learning at work, family and community learning and learning in school. It runs national awareness-raising events, including Learning at Work Day and Family Learning Week, and works in a range of ways to change policy and practice on learning.
The Campaign is working for a society in which:

  • everyone has the right to learn
  • everyone understands and values learning
  • everyone has the chance to learn throughout their lives

The Learning to Learn in Schools project was originally conceived by the Campaign for Learning in 2000 in response to substantial changes in education and advances in the understanding of the process of learning. Along with a growing number of teachers, educational organisations and respected international thinkers, the Campaign felt that a better understanding of Learning to Learn by teachers and pupils could be the catalyst for further improvements in schools. The Campaign believes that it makes sense for schools to develop confident, successful lifelong learners, who are ready to learn anything and have the flexibility and skills that are needed to negotiate, manage and take advantage of 21st century challenges. The key question underpinning the research was: how can pupils and students be enabled to learn most effectively so that each one has the best chance to achieve his or her full potential?
