Aim Higher Fayre in Camborne, Pool and Redruth with the
Aim Higher has been an important project within the Camborne, Pool and Redruth (CPR) Success Zone now for five years. Raising aspiration and achievement are one of our core goals and principles in our working. One of the most successful programmes to come from this is our Annual Aim Higher Fayre. This took place in the week 5th to the 7th February 2008 at the Camborne, Pool and Redruth Learning Space next to
The event involved ten Universities bringing their student ambassadors, display boards and information about their University. This year Connexions also had a stand with information about their work and how they can provide additional information about learning pathways. The aim of the event is to dispel some of the myths about University and University life. How much will it cost? Do you have to have A levels? What is student life like? What courses can you do? What are the benefits of going to University.

I have been involved directly in Aim Higher activities since January 2007. Coming in at this stage and following on from the superb work carried out previously by Donna Bryant was a bit of a daunting prospect and well removed from my usual field of activity in Modern Languages!
My first task was to finish off the final details of the Aim Higher Fayre which happened in February. This was a great success and it was impressive to see the way in which the University delegates worked with the pupils and the fantastic response they generated from them. (More details under “ Aim Higher Fayre “).
The linking together of so many different agencies , each involved in different aspects of Higher Education is proving to be a very rewarding experience. It is such a pleasure to see so many pupils (and sometimes their parents) realising that going into Higher Education is a real possibility for them. Meeting and discussing options with people just like themselves who are already enjoying the benefits of Higher Education clearly lights their way ahead !
