CPRLS Creative Learning & Teaching
Ever since the Learning Space opened in November 2004, we have aimed to stay at the leading edge of learning initiatives and research. Learning is something that people do lifelong and life wide - at home, work, school, in our leisure time and even when we sleep. We are all learners and we learn best by seeing, talking and doing (with our picture, word and body memory) preferably all at once. Bearing this is mind, our centre allows us to create the impression of being in a different environment (for example a rainforest or a forensic lab) by showing images around the walls on our plasma screens, by playing appropriate sounds through our PA and by encouraging learners to lead their own way through a range of kinaesthetic team activities and challenges.
How we will learn is changing fast and what will learn is changing too. All our challenges help learners to develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes – skills and attitudes are equally valuable and obviously transferrable to the real world! Learner and learning centred approaches are at the heart of the Government’s personalised learning agenda. We have been working this way since we opened and can demonstrate that we are already meeting the Government’s vision of learning for 2020, today! That’s why people of all ages leave our centre having had fun, despite having worked hard and learning a lot!
The future of learning will bring the whole community, businesses and schools together in a very different way…we are pioneering that way!
