Academic Coaching at GCSE
Assessing the impact of Academic Coaching on GCSE performance- John Welham, Camborne Science and Community College
Case study aimed to explore whether a 1:1 intervention programme based on Academic Coaching and Neuro- Linguistic Programming techniques help improve students’ attainment. Several years of research have suggested that such a 1:1 intervention can have a significant impact, supported by the following findings:
-
15 of the 25 students involved in the coaching programme gained 5 A*-C grades, a success rate of 60%
-
Students consistently achieved better than the predictions (based on KS2 and KS3 SATs) in their GCSE exams, after taking part in the coaching programme
-
Comments from the students indicate that coaching supported students in appropriate revision and preparation for their GCSE exams.
