Behaviour, Self Esteem & Attainment
An investigation into the impact of a skills based curriculum on pupil resilience and resourcefulness- Ann Webb and Pat Williams, Treloweth CP School
The research involved the whole school (Foundation Stage- Year 6) and aimed to understand:
-
The relative importance of different L2L approaches in raising standards
-
Whether and, if so how, L2L approaches support the development of confident and capable lifelong learners
-
How the adoption of L2L approaches impact on teacher motivation and capacity to manage change. The research found that promoting collaborative learning through a skills-based curriculum:
-
Raises the level of challenge and has a positive impact on levels of engagement, behaviour, motivation to learn, self esteem, independence as well as attainment of all learners;
-
Enables the teacher to observe students, reflect and target provision more effectively. It also promotes mutual respect within and beyond the classroom; and
-
Has a very positive impact on language development.
