Parents
And
Children
Together
PACT aims to:
-
Encourage and support parents/carers to have the appropriate resources to talk with their children about sex and relationships (SRE) at home, through forming a partnership with their child’s school.
-
Help parents/carers understand and acknowledge the importance of this communication in the context of building resilience in their children, which may protect them from risky behaviours in adolescence, such as unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections and drug use.
PACT - in brief:
-
PACT is delivered through primary schools and involves teachers, parents and multi-agency teams in the teaching and learning around SRE during the Autumn and Summer terms in Lower and Upper Key Stage 2.
-
PACT is both a resource and a process, which schools embed into their curriculum.
-
The resource has been written and developed by Sue and Debby (with PACT Working Groups) and dovetails SRE with the existing Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning DfES Curriculum (SEAL) which the schools are already teaching.
-
Sue and Debby support and train teachers to work with parents/carers and the wider multi-agency teams through using and developing the PACT resource and process in a way applicable to their schools needs.
-
Many agencies are keen to work with schools through the PACT process as it helps schools signpost parents to relevant services. The agencies themselves welcome a forum by which they can contact parents and make their service accessible to them.
PACT for the next year 2008/09
PACT is currently ready to run in 20 primary schools and 7 secondary schools in the autumn term 2008, in addition to our previous schools in 2007/8.
