Significantly increased the frequency of children and parents talking together about feelings and relationships, thus changing the culture at home around sex and relationships education

Enabled parents to form a partnership with their child’s school around SRE and SEAL

Provided a framework which enables the school to become a 'hub' of support for parents through its links to the multi-agency teams which includes: the Behavioural Support Service, School Nurses and Health Visitors, Parenting Fund, Family Services, Scallywags, Relate and The Pyramid Trust

Been successfully implemented in varying school socio-economic group and geographical settings

Been delivered within existing budgets (with the exception of the project leads administration and resources) and has been embedded into existing health and education service structures

Given teachers a user-friendly way to deliver SRE at KS2 and involve parents. KS2 traditionally being a more difficult time to keep parents engaged

Been embraced by many local primary schools and has a waiting list for 2007

Appeared to be the only project of its kind in the UK and has the potential to ‘roll out’ to all primary schools across the UK. (As suggested by the DfES in May 2006)

The potential to help families explore other issues such as those around drugs, alcohol and tobacco

Had requests for national PACT training from delegates at the University of London’s Institute of Education, ‘Health in Schools Conference’ May 2006
PACT fits with the following National and Local Area Agreement Outcomes and strategies :

To work in partnership with other agencies to support schools in the West of Cornwall (in areas of Indisces of Multiple Deprivation - IMD) to work with parents, training and supporting them in the process of PACT, SEAL, Family SEAL (or similar) to suit the school’s ethos and way of working

To develop and pilot a Key Stage (KS) 2 and 3 Transition Resource linking SEAL and SRE

Discussions are underway for PACT to work alongside DAAT worker to provide expertise to help develop or adapt a Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco teaching resource linking to SEAL at KS2 and/or KS3
